FLOOD OUTLOOK - LOWER OTTAWA RIVER

A Flood Outlook Statement is being issued for areas along the Lower Ottawa River (Arnprior to Hawkesbury). Based on a large weather system from Texas that brought 15 to 75 mm of precipitation over much of the Ottawa River basin between April 11 and 13, levels and flows along the Ottawa River have begun increasing due to spring runoff. Residents along the shores of the Lower Ottawa River should be aware that throughout the spring freshet period water levels can rise rapidly at times and cause minor flooding in low-lying areas. WATERSHED CONDITIONS: WATER SAFETY STATEMENT

SNC is extending the Water Safety Statement issued on April 4th, 2024. Weather Forecast: Environment Canada has issued a forecast expecting up to 40 mm of rainfall by Saturday morning. This advisory follows elevated water levels resulting from last week’s snow and subsequent snowmelt. Environmental Conditions: Snowmelt combined with anticipated rainfall Thursday continuing into Saturday may result in increased water levels and flows in rivers, potentially causing nuisance flooding in low-lying areas. Weather Forecast: Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Thursday with 5-10 cm of snow expected, changing to a mix of flurries and rain showers on Friday. This warning follows Wednesday’s precipitation mix with approximately 15 mm of rain and 10 cm of snow. Environmental Conditions: Snowmelt due to warmer temperatures combined with anticipated rainfall Friday may result in increased water levels and flows in rivers, potentially causing nuisance flooding in low-lying areas.
