The Municipality of Casselman received today the 2023 PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD (Small Municipalities - Environment). It is a joint award with JLRichards (engineering) and Asco Construction Ltd. given out by The Ontario Public Works Association.
The Municipality of Casselman used lagoon-based wastewater treatment system since early 1970s. Expansion of the serviced area and stricter treatment regulations led to the need for upgrades, and we identified the need for improved effluent quality and sustainable growth. Looking for a solution suitable for small communities and affordable, we selected LagoonGuardTM, a moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) type technology. MBBR has proved effective for similar applications, scale, and climate in North America. Casselman was the first to install and operate this MBBR type in Ontario.
According to the mayor, Geneviève Lajoie, “this award is a concrete example our innovative approaches in terms of infrastructure and services to the population, a commitment of our strategic plan which is very dear to me”
